A note from Connor MacIvor · Week two

A promise that includes corrections

A personal note on helping, evidence and reclaiming your attention.

Last week I told you why I started The Honor Daily: I wanted a useful way to read the news without handing my attention to a feed that never ends. That purpose has not changed. I want the important stories, the original evidence when we can get it, and enough context to make my own judgment. I also want to know when an apparently certain claim rests on a thin sample or an interested source.

This week gave us a practical test of that promise. An article about testosterone labels omitted a later FDA request. We corrected the public article and explained the missing step in the next edition. A correction is uncomfortable, but leaving a misleading timeline in place would be worse. Please use the source links and the corrections note. If you find a mistake, tell me. The standard is not pretending to be infallible; it is making the record clearer when evidence improves.

You will see local real estate beside world events, AI, health research and the occasional idea that is simply worth thinking about. The paper has house ads because I build businesses and represent sellers. Those interests are visible. The reporting still has to earn your trust on its own. I hope you leave with one useful insight and enough time to finish the work that matters to you. Thanks for reading, and if you would like the editions by email, the frequency choices and QR code are on the back page.

Closing-window start dates (inclusive): 7-day 2026-09-26; 30-day 2026-09-03; longer view 2026-03-31. Counts run through the source snapshot. These are source UTC calendar-date windows, not exact rolling-hour periods. Closing windows overlap; do not add them.

What the split means for a real decision

For a seller

Single-family homes show 510 active listings against 157 recent closings: 3.2 months of supply. That is tighter than the condo segment. Compare your home with today’s same-type, same-price alternatives before choosing an asking price; this ratio does not prove a bidding war.

For a buyer

Condos show 213 active listings against 31 closings: 6.9 months of supply. That means more listed choice per recent sale than single-family homes, not an automatic discount. Check HOA costs, financing, condition and property-level competition before making an offer.

What the labels mean

Seller-leaning: less available supply relative to completed sales. Buyer-leaning: more supply relative to sales. Balanced: the middle range. These describe relative negotiating conditions, not a guarantee for any home.

This paper uses a declared rule of thumb: below 4 months is seller-leaning; 4–6 is balanced; above 6 is buyer-leaning. We classify the unrounded number and withhold a label below 10 closings in the 30-day window. Local price tier, condition, location, HOA costs and financing can change the picture.

Absorption, without the jargon

30-day absorption = closed sales ÷ current active listings × 100. It compares recent completed sales with today’s inventory. It is not the percentage of those exact active homes that sold.

Months of supply = current active listings ÷ 30-day closed sales. It approximates how long today’s inventory would last at that sales pace, assuming no new listings. Coming-soon, active-under-contract and pending homes are kept separate and excluded from that numerator. No closings means the ratio is unavailable, not zero.

Feed-defined SCV residential market: Valencia, Saugus, Canyon Country, Newhall, Castaic, Stevenson Ranch, Santa Clarita, Acton and Agua Dulce. Internet-displayable MLS records only; this is not every property or private sale in the valley. “Other / unclassified” keeps the totals reconciled. A zero means the successful source query found none; an unavailable query must never become zero. Source updates and late-entered closings can revise counts. The 186-day column adds context; it does not drive today’s label.

Local data · Defined supply measure

The valley average hides three different markets.

October 03, 2026 · 16:00 PDT

The feed reports 851 active residential listings and 7 coming soon. There were 216 closed sales in its 30-day reporting window. The combined supply ratio is 3.94 months, but that headline alone misses the differences.

Single-family homes: 510 active, 157 closed in the source 30-day window, 3.2 months of supply; Condos: 213 active, 31 closed in the source 30-day window, 6.9 months of supply; Townhomes: 112 active, 25 closed in the source 30-day window, 4.5 months of supply.

Read the table above before applying a valley-wide label to a particular property. The 186-day counts provide a longer view; they do not set the label in this edition. These are MLS-derived displayable listing counts, not a complete census of private sales or every local property.

Freddie Mac weekly survey · Local feed pending refresh

The mortgage benchmark is unchanged; the local mix is not

October 3 PM; survey October 1

There is no newer Freddie Mac weekly mortgage survey since the October 1 reading of 7.28% for a 30-year fixed loan. That figure is a national average of selected loans, not a live Santa Clarita quote. The September employment report released Friday showed 29,000 added payroll jobs and 4.2% unemployment. Neither number sets the price of a particular home or a particular borrower’s rate.

The actionable local question is how much competing supply a similar property faces. The refreshed table in this edition separates single-family homes, condos and townhomes, and names the exact closing windows. Active ÷ closed over 30 days gives a rough months-of-supply comparison. A condo seller should not borrow the single-family label; a buyer should not treat the valleywide average as leverage on every house. Coming-soon and pending counts describe different pipeline stages, not closed sales.

Sellers: compare your property against the live active set and recent comparable closings before choosing an ask. Buyers: ask for a written, same-assumption mortgage comparison, including points and fees. Those are decisions, not a forecast. Connor represents sellers and receives business from consultations, so the invitation to talk is a disclosed commercial interest.

South Korean military statement via Yonhap · October 3

A missile launch raises the stakes on the Korean border

October 3, 06:30 Korea Standard Time

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected a ballistic missile launched from the North’s Wonsan area at about 06:30 Saturday local time. Yonhap reported a flight of more than 700 kilometers before it fell at sea. The South Korean military said the type was still being analyzed; calling it definitively intermediate-range would go beyond that statement. North Korea later claimed a maneuverable intermediate-range test, according to AP, but that claim is not independent proof of its performance.

This follows a September 21 land-mine blast in the Demilitarized Zone that injured three South Korean soldiers. Seoul blames Pyongyang; North Korea denies responsibility. Those are opposing official claims, not a resolved forensic finding in this paper. South Korea’s case for vigilance rests on the injured soldiers and a new weapons launch. The competing caution is that every classification and attribution announced during a confrontation can accelerate escalation before independent evidence is public.

The new fact since the morning edition is the confirmed detection and reported trajectory; no treaty change or new US policy is established by it. Watch for a joint technical assessment and any actual diplomatic move, rather than treating a weapons claim as a policy outcome.

On-scene reporting · Mayor’s statement

Kyiv’s bridges become another front in the air war

Attack October 3; reports October 3

A combined Russian missile-and-drone attack hit Kyiv early Saturday. Kyiv Post, citing Mayor Vitali Klitschko, reported one person killed and two injured in the capital. The attack followed Friday’s strikes that closed or restricted three Dnipro bridges, disrupting ordinary crossings. Later casualty counts across Ukraine may differ; this is the mayor-linked Kyiv figure at the cited report time.

The significance is practical as well as military: a bridge used by commuters, transit and emergency crews is part of the city’s daily operating system. Ukraine describes the repeated strikes as pressure on civilian infrastructure ahead of winter and seeks stronger air defense. Russia’s public justification for its campaign does not erase the reported civilian effect. We do not infer a specific target selection from the damage alone; investigators need weapon and impact evidence to settle intent in each strike.

The US political angle remains a question of support, sanctions and escalation, but this edition found no new enacted US measure to pair with the Saturday attack. Distinguish calls for action from adopted policy.

When a customer asks AI for a local professional, will it find you?

October 3, 2026 · Afternoon edition

Imagine a buyer asking an assistant to find four-bedroom homes in Valencia with private pools and a local professional who can help. Connor MacIvor's October 3 video asks whether AI-assisted search can understand a business's inventory, services, location and next step. That is a useful question. His stronger prediction—that AI will perform the search for most customers—remains a forecast, not a measured fact.

Google says its AI search features draw on its ordinary search index, with the basic requirements of crawlable, helpful pages eligible to appear in Search. Its 2026 guidance describes models issuing related queries to gather information. OpenAI separately identifies OAI-SearchBot as the crawler used for ChatGPT search results. It distinguishes that from GPTBot, associated with model training, and from user-triggered visits. These systems do not use one universal AI score, and no publisher can promise placement across them.

The distinctions matter. Grok is an assistant a person might ask. A search crawler discovers pages for a search product. OpenAI's Dots, announced September 29, are connected agents that can do background work for their users. OpenAI says proactive research in connected apps is read-only, while other actions have rules and approval controls. A dot is not simply another name for every web-search bot. Calling them all agents can hide how a business might actually be found.

For a real-estate brokerage, the first test is plain. Can a person, browser and search system find an accurate service area, current contact details, an accessible explanation of services and a clear appointment path? Can the property information be read without a confusing code page or impossible login gate? Can the site answer a real buyer or seller question with dated facts and a source? Google warns against scaled pages made to manipulate AI search and says there is no special schema needed just to appear in its AI features.

Next, test the handoff. Ask a few assistants realistic customer questions, record which sources they cite and compare the answers with the live site. If a visitor arrives, does the calendar work on a phone? Are listings current? Does an inquiry reach a responsible person? If a connected agent prepares follow-up, who reviews its facts, permissions and exceptions before anything is sent? That is implementation work, not a visibility trick.

Connor's commercial interest is clear: he builds AI and business workflows and invites owners to discuss their websites and customer handoffs. The editorial takeaway does not depend on hiring him. Make the public facts useful to people first, measure whether discovery and booking actually improve, and decline anyone who guarantees AI recommendations without showing evidence.

Randomized phase 3 trial · Older September 29 publication

A powerful obesity-drug trial still cannot answer the fasting question

Published September 29; reviewed October 3

A September 29 New England Journal of Medicine report offers substantial evidence for retatrutide in a specific population: 2,339 adults with obesity and without diabetes, randomized to weekly investigational medicine or placebo for 80 weeks. Mean weight change was 23.7% and 25.0% in the two higher-dose groups, versus 3.9% with placebo. The authors also report improvements in prespecified knee-pain and sleep-apnea subgroups. Gastrointestinal events were the most common adverse effects. Eli Lilly funded the trial and several authors work there.

This is randomized evidence for weight loss during treatment. It does not compare retatrutide with prolonged fasting, carnivore eating or testosterone replacement; it does not show a longevity benefit. No new controlled trial on those three subjects materially changed the morning desk. Claims from diet testimonials remain anecdotes unless tested against a comparator. This medicine is investigational, and FDA warns against unapproved retatrutide sold online as a research product.

The commercial spin cuts both ways: the manufacturer benefits from an impressive efficacy result, while critics may overlook a real randomized effect. The useful judgment is narrower: promising trial results, known gastrointestinal burden, uncertain long-term outcomes and no personal treatment recommendation from a newspaper.

Verdict · Misleading

“Pay someone and AI will recommend your business”

October 3 assessment

Verdict: MISLEADING. Google says generative search still relies on its search index and ordinary technical eligibility, and explicitly says indexing or serving is not guaranteed. OpenAI documents separate crawlers and user-triggered visits. A consultant can improve a site’s clarity and test its booking path; the documents do not support a guaranteed recommendation or universal placement.

What could change this verdict? Reproducible, independently audited customer-query tests showing sustained incremental qualified leads for a defined cohort and platform, with the method and baseline published. A few selected screenshots would remain weak evidence. Connor sells implementation help, so his interest is disclosed alongside this verdict.

What Reddit & X Are Saying

Small, self-selected forum sample

One medical thread, not the profession’s verdict

Reddit thread opened October 3

An accessible r/medicine thread discussing the September 29 retatrutide paper contains both excitement about the reported weight change and concerns about adverse events, coverage, and what happens after treatment stops. It is a self-selected discussion with visible comments, not a representative physician survey. Some comments claim clinical experience or future outcomes that the trial alone cannot verify.

Direct X discussion was not reliably retrievable for this edition. No platform-wide sentiment is inferred. The trial’s own methods and adverse-event tables, not vote counts, should decide the medical reading.

NASA engineering test · October 2 report

A Venus probe rehearses a one-hour descent

Test August 28–September 10; report October 2

NASA says an engineering model of its yoga-ball-sized DAVINCI probe survived a chamber test that rose to 869°F over roughly an hour. That is the heating pace expected during a future descent through Venus’s atmosphere. It is a ground test of a model, not a Venus landing. The mission aims to measure how the planet evolved and whether it might once have been wet.

A useful mental model: test the most punishing handoff before celebrating the full system. The spacecraft’s scientific promise depends on a vessel that can deliver instruments through heat. For a business, the equivalent is testing whether the visitor who found you can actually complete a booking on a phone.

Optional one-minute exercise: set down the feed, take three unhurried breaths, and write the single handoff you will verify before starting a new idea. That is a focus prompt, not a health claim.

Bounded operator experiment

A five-query discovery audit for one owned site

October 3 recommendation

Use the existing BookWithHonor.com calendar and one current service page. Ask five realistic local customer questions in two assistants, record whether they cite the correct service, location and booking URL, then manually test that appointment link on a phone. Fix one concrete mismatch. The customer problem is friction between finding a business and getting a real answer or appointment.

Cheap validation: compare the five responses and a single test booking before and after a factual page correction. Stop after that pass if nothing changes, or if the answers are inconsistent enough that a larger rewrite cannot be measured. This displaces one new AI-tool pitch or side project. It is not a promise of ranking or leads.
